Senior Exhibition Designer - Museums & Galleries

About the Role

Our client is seeking an imaginative and experienced Senior Exhibition Designer to create compelling and immersive experiences for Museums & Galleries in Sheffield . This role involves translating curatorial concepts into engaging spatial designs that captivate and educate visitors. You will lead the design process from initial concept development through to final installation, collaborating closely with curators, conservators, graphic designers, and fabricators. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the narrative and visitor journey of significant cultural displays. This is a prime opportunity to contribute to the cultural enrichment of the region through innovative exhibition design.

Key Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and develop innovative exhibition designs that align with curatorial objectives and audience engagement goals.
• Create detailed design drawings, models, and 3D visualizations using industry-standard software.
• Collaborate effectively with curators, researchers, graphic designers, and fabricators throughout the design and build process.
• Manage exhibition project timelines, budgets, and supplier relationships.
• Ensure designs meet accessibility standards, conservation requirements, and health & safety regulations.
• Oversee the installation and final implementation of exhibitions, ensuring design integrity.

Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of professional experience as an Exhibition Designer , with a strong portfolio in museums and galleries.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex narratives and ideas into compelling spatial experiences.
• Strong understanding of materials, fabrication processes, lighting, and AV integration in exhibition contexts.
• Excellent project management, communication, and collaborative skills.
• A passion for museology and cultural heritage, with a keen eye for detail in design for Sheffield's institutions.
