Senior Geneticist - Clinical Diagnostics

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Geneticist to join their advanced Clinical Diagnostics laboratory in Stoke-on-Trent . This critical role involves the analysis and interpretation of genetic tests to diagnose and manage a variety of inherited conditions. You will work with state-of-the-art genetic technologies, contributing to patient care by providing accurate and timely genetic assessments. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of human genetics, and the ability to communicate complex genetic information clearly to clinicians and patients. This hybrid role offers a blend of laboratory work and remote analysis, fostering both collaboration and focused research.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex genetic analysis using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and other molecular techniques.
• Interpret genetic test results and generate comprehensive reports for clinicians and genetic counselors.
• Validate new genetic testing methodologies and ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Stay updated on advancements in genetic diagnostics, rare diseases, and relevant clinical guidelines.
• Provide expert consultation to healthcare professionals regarding genetic testing options and interpretation.
• Contribute to the training and mentorship of junior geneticists and laboratory staff.

Requirements

• PhD or MSc in Human Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
• Significant experience (5+ years) in clinical genetics, with a focus on diagnostic testing.
• Proficiency in NGS data analysis, variant interpretation, and reporting.
• Strong knowledge of genetic databases, variant databases, and relevant interpretation software.
• Experience with laboratory quality management systems (e.g., ISO 15189).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a hybrid setting.
