Responsibilities

Undertaking technically accurate assessments and preparing clear and accurate technical reports is an essential part of the role. The team works collaboratively, focusing on learning and development. Candidates will be based in the geoenvironmental team, working with an Associate Director and team members across the company remotely and in person, liaising with internal and external clients.

• Maintain and develop strong background knowledge and technical understanding, including the EAs Land Contamination Risk Management (LCRM) Framework.
• Apply technical and communication skills to ensure good report outcomes.
• Deliver high‑quality work in accordance with good practice, relevant standards/legislation, codes of practice, current design methods, and health & safety.
• Communicate technical information in an understandable way.
• Ensure deliverables meet client needs, are provided on time, on budget, and to high standards.
• Plan tasks and workload to meet project deadlines and budget.
• Support geoenvironmental consultants and graduates as the team grows.
• Project‑manage smaller projects and exercise commercial/financial awareness.
• Contribute to bids and prepare simple bids.
• Assist with business development and promotion of the company’s capabilities.
• Ensure compliance with internal management system procedures.

Land Contamination Risk Management

• Preliminary risk assessments (desk study, conceptual site models, outlining next steps).
• Site investigation scheme – design investigations, contribute to/prep specifications and tender evaluations, oversee fieldwork, and schedule geochemical analysis.
• Assess ground conditions and prepare ground models to support conceptual site models.
• Quantitative risk assessments (Generic Quantitative Risk Assessments – human health experience essential, ground gas and controlled waters beneficial).
• Detailed quantitative risk assessment (experience beneficial).
• Remediation options appraisal, remediation strategy, verification and validation.
• Supervise fieldwork for site investigation and remediation verification (particularly for senior role).

Materials and Waste

• Waste classification assessments and acceptance assessments.
• Material management strategies and plans.
• Site‑won materials, including made ground, natural soils and secondary aggregates from demolition.

Qualifications

• Degree in environmental earth science, geoenvironmental or geological science.
• Member of a relevant environmental professional body.
• Chartered member (or working towards chartership) of a relevant professional body.

Experience

• Considerable experience working in a UK consultancy with private/public‑sector developers and operators on a range of development and infrastructure projects.

Skills

• Strong background knowledge and interest in geoenvironmental topics.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and organisational skills.
• Full familiarity with UK land contamination policy, practice and guidance documents.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Collaborative nature, demonstrating strong relationships.
• Teamworking ability.
• Commercial understanding of environmental consultancy procurement.
• Full UK driving licence with own transport.
• Familiarity with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS) and Holebase.

Business Travel

UK travel is part of the role for client/site meetings, team development meetings, and project site visits. The main office can be any of the Birmingham, Exeter, London, Manchester, Nottingham or Wakefield offices.
