Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Foundations and Ground Improvement

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer to enhance their technical capabilities in Bristol . This role centers on the specialized areas of foundation design and ground improvement techniques for diverse construction projects. You will be responsible for undertaking complex analyses, developing innovative solutions for challenging ground conditions, and managing projects from feasibility through to construction. This is an excellent opportunity for a geotechnical expert to take a lead role in critical projects, contributing to sustainable and resilient development in the South West, and working within a respected engineering consultancy known for its technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform advanced geotechnical analysis for deep and shallow foundations, slope stability, and earth retention systems.
• Design and specify ground improvement techniques such as vibro-compaction, stone columns, and soil nailing.
• Manage geotechnical investigation programs and interpret laboratory and in-situ testing data.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical design reports, specifications, and drawings.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Provide technical supervision and mentorship to junior members of the geotechnical team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or equivalent professional qualification.
• Significant experience (typically 7+ years) in geotechnical design, with a strong emphasis on foundations and ground improvement.
• Proficiency with industry-standard geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio suite).
• Thorough understanding of British Standards and Eurocodes relevant to geotechnical engineering.
• Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
