Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Open Pit Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Reading , focusing on the stability and design of open-pit mines. This role is critical for ensuring the safety and economic viability of our mining operations by providing expert analysis of geological conditions and designing effective ground support and slope stability measures. You will lead geotechnical investigations, develop comprehensive engineering solutions, and collaborate with mine planning and operations teams. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations for open-pit mine sites, including drilling, sampling, and field testing.
• Analyze rock and soil mass properties to assess slope stability, excavation stability, and foundation conditions.
• Design and implement appropriate ground support systems, including anchors, bolts, and shotcrete.
• Develop and optimize open-pit mine designs based on geotechnical constraints and economic factors.
• Monitor ground movement and the performance of engineered structures using instrumentation.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and design recommendations.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 9 years of experience in geotechnical engineering , with a significant focus on open-pit mining projects.
• Expertise in slope stability analysis, rock mechanics, and soil mechanics.
• Proficiency with industry-standard geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio, Rocscience, Maptek).
• Experience in managing geotechnical investigations and construction oversight.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with a willingness to travel to mine sites as needed.
