Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their expert team in Plymouth . This role is essential for ensuring the stability and safety of mining structures, excavations, and surrounding ground conditions. You will be responsible for conducting detailed geotechnical investigations, analyzing slope stability, underground support systems, and ground-response modelling. Your expertise will be critical in advising on design parameters and mitigation strategies to manage geological risks inherent in mining operations, contributing to the success and safety of projects in the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive geotechnical site investigations and interpret subsurface data.
• Perform analyses for slope stability, open-pit mine design, and underground excavation stability.
• Design and specify ground support systems, including rock bolting, shotcrete, and reinforcement.
• Develop and implement ground monitoring programs to assess stability and performance.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice to mine planning, design, and operations teams.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations for mitigation strategies.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong background in mining environments.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, PLAXIS).
• Deep understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and numerical modelling techniques.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to work on-site in potentially challenging conditions near Plymouth .
