Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead their geotechnical investigations and design services for mining projects in the Plymouth area. This role is essential for ensuring the stability and safety of mine infrastructure, including open pits, underground excavations, and waste rock dumps. You will be responsible for managing complex geotechnical projects, providing expert advice, and developing innovative solutions to challenging ground conditions. The successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and their application in mining environments, contributing to safe and efficient operations in Devon .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and manage geotechnical investigations, including site characterization and laboratory testing.
• Perform stability analyses for open pits, underground excavations, and tailings dams.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and monitoring programs.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice to mine planning and operations teams.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and recommendations.
• Oversee junior geotechnical engineers and provide technical mentorship.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant exposure to mining projects.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC).
• Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics principles and their practical application.
• Experience in managing projects and leading technical teams.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
