Senior HV Electrical Design Manager - Substations

Laing O'Rourke is supporting the transformation of the UK's electricity network through the Great Grid Upgrade , and we're looking for a Senior Electrical Design Manager to play a leading role on the Chesterfield substation project .

This is an opportunity to sit at the centre of a nationally significant EHV scheme, shaping design strategy, influencing outcomes, and helping modernise critical infrastructure needed for a net‑zero future.

What you'll be doing

• Leading electrical design management across a complex EHV substation project
• Providing technical leadership across internal teams, designers, and supply chain partners
• Managing design assurance, compliance and integration, from early design through to delivery
• Working closely with construction and project leadership to ensure buildability and programme alignment
• Acting as a key interface with the client and other external stakeholders

What you'll bring

• Strong experience in EHV / HV substation design , ideally within major infrastructure programmes
• A solid grounding in UK standards, safety, and regulatory requirements for transmission assets
• The confidence to lead design conversations, challenge constructively, and influence at senior level
• A collaborative mindset, comfortable working across multi‑disciplinary and multi‑organisational teams
• Experience balancing technical detail with programme, cost and delivery priorities
