Senior Information Security Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Information Security Engineer to lead security initiatives from their Newcastle upon Tyne office. This pivotal role involves designing, implementing, and managing robust security solutions to protect the organisation's critical infrastructure and data. You will be instrumental in developing proactive security strategies, responding to advanced threats, and mentoring junior members of the security team. This is an on-site position designed for individuals who thrive in a collaborative, office-based environment, contributing directly to the security resilience of our client's operations in the Tyne and Wear region.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage enterprise-level security technologies including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security solutions.
• Lead security incident response efforts, including investigation, containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Develop and maintain security architecture documentation and roadmaps.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for identified vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with IT operations and development teams to ensure security is integrated into all systems and processes.

Requirements

• Significant experience (5+ years) in an Information Security Engineer role.
• Deep understanding of security principles, protocols, and technologies.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of security tasks.
• Experience with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
