Senior Infrastructure Engineer
- london, england, United Kingdom
- £70 - £100 Per Hour
Job Description
Are you an experienced Infrastructure Engineer looking to step into a role where you'll have genuine ownership, influence technical direction and play a key role in shaping enterprise infrastructure?
We're working with a well-established, multi-site organisation operating within a highly regulated, customer-facing environment to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer. This is an opportunity to join a business investing heavily in its technology estate, where you'll become the technical authority across infrastructure whilst working alongside senior stakeholders and strategic technology partners.
This isn't a traditional support role. You'll be responsible for helping shape infrastructure strategy, driving technical improvements and ensuring managed service providers deliver secure, resilient and high-performing services across a modern Microsoft environment.
The Opportunity
You’ll join a collaborative technology team where you’ll take ownership of enterprise infrastructure spanning cloud, on-premise platforms and networking technologies.
Working closely with internal stakeholders and external managed service providers, you’ll provide technical leadership, review infrastructure designs, challenge supplier recommendations and help deliver infrastructure transformation initiatives across a complex multi-site estate.
This role offers an excellent balance of hands‑on engineering and strategic influence, making it ideal for someone looking to take the next step in their infrastructure career.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of enterprise infrastructure across cloud, server, virtualisation and network environments.
- Act as the primary technical contact for managed service providers and infrastructure partners.
- Review and challenge technical designs, change requests and implementation plans.
- Support infrastructure strategy, standards and technology roadmaps.
- Lead infrastructure upgrades, cloud adoption and technology refresh initiatives.
- Support Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services alongside Windows Server, Linux and virtualisation platforms.
- Work across enterprise networking technologies including Cisco Meraki and Fortinet.
- Improve resilience, availability, disaster recovery and overall platform performance.
- Support infrastructure projects and wider technology transformation programmes.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality technical delivery.
About You
You’ll have a strong infrastructure engineering background and enjoy taking ownership of technical environments rather than simply maintaining them.
You’ll ideally have experience with:
- Microsoft 365
- Windows Server
- Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID
- VMware and/or Hyper‑V
- Fortinet
- Infrastructure monitoring and disaster recovery
- Working with managed service providers or outsourced infrastructure partners
You’ll be comfortable making technical decisions, influencing stakeholders and remaining hands‑on when required.
Experience within multi-site enterprise environments such as hospitality, retail, leisure, financial services or other customer-facing organisations would be highly advantageous.
Relevant certifications including Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, CCNP or ITIL are welcomed but practical experience is valued just as highly.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to move into a role with genuine technical ownership and influence, working across a modern Microsoft infrastructure within a business that continues to invest in technology.
You’ll have the opportunity to shape infrastructure strategy, work with senior stakeholders, influence key technical decisions and play a major role in the ongoing evolution of the technology estate.
Location: Hybrid, London, with occasional travel to other UK locations.
