Senior Insurance Underwriter

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Insurance Underwriter to lead underwriting activities for their Derby branch. This senior role involves managing a portfolio of complex risks, making critical underwriting decisions, and contributing to the development of underwriting strategy. You will play a key part in ensuring the profitability and growth of the business by accurately assessing risk and setting appropriate terms and conditions. This is a significant opportunity to leverage your expertise within the Derbyshire insurance market and mentor junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and underwrite complex commercial and personal lines insurance risks.
• Determine appropriate policy terms, conditions, pricing, and limits.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents, providing expert guidance.
• Monitor portfolio performance, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Mentor and train junior underwriters, sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines and strategies.

Requirements

• Extensive experience (7+ years) as an Insurance Underwriter , with a strong focus on commercial lines.
• Deep understanding of risk assessment, pricing methodologies, and portfolio management.
• Proven ability to make sound, independent underwriting decisions.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Familiarity with UK insurance regulations and market dynamics.
• Professional qualifications such as ACII or equivalent are essential.
