About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Java Developer to join their established IT department in Sunderland . This role is crucial for developing and maintaining sophisticated backend systems within the demanding financial services sector. You will play a key part in designing robust, scalable, and secure applications, working alongside a dedicated team of engineers and analysts. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement high-performance, scalable backend services using Java and related frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, adhering to coding standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, and other developers to define application requirements and technical designs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, ensuring the stability and reliability of financial systems.
- Participate actively in code reviews , providing constructive feedback to peers.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and tooling.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend development, with a strong focus on Java .
- In-depth knowledge of the Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data).
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle) and SQL.
- Familiarity with messaging queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) and microservices architecture.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent communication abilities suitable for a financial services environment.
