Senior Lighting Artist

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Lighting Artist to join their dedicated team in Plymouth . In this role, you will be responsible for creating evocative and technically sound lighting scenarios that enhance the mood, narrative, and visual quality of projects. You will work closely with the art direction to establish the lighting style, ensuring it complements the overall aesthetic and gameplay experience. This position is ideal for an artist with a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of light, colour, and composition, and a passion for contributing to visually stunning outputs within our Plymouth studio.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-quality lighting for environments, characters, and cinematics to achieve desired mood and visual storytelling.
• Collaborate with art directors and environment artists to establish and maintain lighting consistency and quality.
• Optimize lighting setups for performance while achieving desired visual targets on various platforms.
• Utilize lighting tools and techniques to create realistic or stylized lighting effects, including global illumination and post-processing.
• Troubleshoot lighting-related issues and provide solutions to ensure seamless integration of assets.
• Mentor junior lighting artists and contribute to the development of best practices and workflows.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Lighting Artist in the gaming, film, or animation industry.
• A strong portfolio showcasing exceptional lighting work in realistic or stylized environments.
• Proficiency with industry-standard lighting and rendering software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Unreal Engine, Unity).
• Deep understanding of light, colour theory, composition, and photography principles.
• Experience with various lighting techniques, including real-time and pre-rendered lighting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, required for studio collaboration in Plymouth .
