Senior Lighting Designer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a visionary and skilled Senior Lighting Designer to elevate the visual aesthetic of performances and events at their premier venue in Cardiff . You will conceptualize, design, and execute lighting schemes that enhance narrative, mood, and spectacle, working closely with directors, set designers, and technical crews. This role requires an individual with exceptional artistic vision, a deep technical understanding of lighting equipment and control systems, and a passion for creating impactful visual experiences, contributing to the artistic excellence of the venue.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop innovative lighting concepts and designs that complement the overall artistic direction of productions.
• Create detailed lighting plots, cue sheets, and technical specifications for programming and execution.
• Oversee the installation, focusing, and programming of lighting equipment.
• Collaborate with directors, scenic designers, and production teams to achieve desired visual effects.
• Manage the lighting budget, including equipment rental, consumables, and personnel.
• Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all lighting equipment and systems.

Requirements

• A strong portfolio demonstrating successful lighting designs across various production types.
• Extensive knowledge of modern lighting equipment, control systems (e.g., ETC, GrandMA), and techniques.
• Experience in budget management and resource allocation for lighting departments.
• Excellent artistic sensibility, communication, and collaborative skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a Cardiff -based theatre environment.
