Senior Logistics & Freight Operations Specialist
(Hybrid working, 3 days office, 2 days wfh - after probation passed)
Reports to Operations Manager / Logistics Director
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Logistics & Freight Operations Specialist to manage international freight movements across air, ocean and road freight while delivering exceptional customer service and operational excellence. The successful candidate will oversee complex import, export and cross-trade shipments, negotiate freight rates, support commercial tenders and RFQs, manage customs compliance, and work closely with customers, suppliers, and overseas partners to ensure seamless end-to-end logistics solutions. This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex logistics challenges and has experience managing high-value, time-critical shipments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end international freight movements across air, ocean and road.(including Project Freight)
- Coordinate import, export and cross-trade shipments.
- Produce all required shipping documentation including: Commercial Invoices, Bills of Lading, Air Waybills,Customs dox, Certificates of Origin and Insurance documentation.
- Coordinate customs clearance activities and ensure compliance with international regulations.
- Negotiate freight rates and maintain relationships with carriers, suppliers and overseas partners.
- Prepare RFQs, tenders and quotations.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding packing requirements and delivery schedules.
- Monitor shipments from booking through to final delivery, proactively resolving any delays or operational issues.
- Produce SOPs and process documentation to improve operational efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the logistics function.
- Assist with KPI reporting, billing accuracy and operational performance.
Skills & Experience
- 8+ years' experience within international freight forwarding or logistics or commercial shipping
- Strong knowledge of: Air Freight ,Ocean Freight, Road Freight
- Excellent understanding of customs procedures and documentation.
- Proven experience negotiating freight rates and carrier contracts.
- Experience preparing RFQs and commercial quotations.
- Strong customer relationship management skills.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple time-critical shipments simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
