About the Role
Our client is looking for a distinguished Senior Materials Engineer to join their advanced research and development team in Edinburgh . This role focuses on the selection, development, and characterization of novel materials to meet demanding performance requirements for innovative products. You will lead material investigations, provide expert technical guidance, and collaborate with product development teams to ensure the optimal use of materials. This is a senior position for an accomplished materials scientist or engineer looking to drive material innovation in a cutting-edge environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead research and development initiatives for new materials and advanced material processing techniques.
- Perform detailed material characterization and failure analysis using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD).
- Collaborate with mechanical and design engineers to specify materials for new product development.
- Develop and implement material testing protocols and quality control procedures.
- Provide expert consultation on material selection, performance, and limitations.
- Author technical reports, research papers, and patent applications.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Materials Science , Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in materials engineering, with a focus on R&D.
- Extensive experience with material characterization techniques and interpretation of results.
- Proven ability to lead research projects and manage material development timelines.
- Strong knowledge of polymers, metals, ceramics, and composites.
- Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills.
