Senior Materials Scientist - Advanced Polymers

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the research, design, and development of novel polymer materials with tailored properties for specific applications.
• Characterize material performance using a range of analytical techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, and thermal analysis.
• Optimize polymer synthesis and processing methods to achieve desired material characteristics and manufacturing efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to translate material innovations into functional products.
• Conduct root cause analysis for material failures and implement corrective actions to ensure product quality and reliability.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the development of intellectual property through patent filings and publications in the field of polymer science .

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of industry experience in the research and development of polymers.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of polymer chemistry, physics, and processing.
• Proficiency with advanced characterization techniques such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, GPC, and tensile testing.
• Experience with polymer synthesis, including polymerization mechanisms and control.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a track record of successful project leadership in Sunderland .
