Our client is seeking a dynamic Senior Materials Scientist to lead research and development efforts in advanced polymer materials at their facility in Sunderland . This role is crucial for innovating and developing new polymer formulations and applications that meet demanding performance requirements across various industries. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the research, design, and development of novel polymer materials with tailored properties for specific applications.
- Characterize material performance using a range of analytical techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, and thermal analysis.
- Optimize polymer synthesis and processing methods to achieve desired material characteristics and manufacturing efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to translate material innovations into functional products.
- Conduct root cause analysis for material failures and implement corrective actions to ensure product quality and reliability.
- Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the development of intellectual property through patent filings and publications in the field of polymer science .
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of industry experience in the research and development of polymers.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of polymer chemistry, physics, and processing.
- Proficiency with advanced characterization techniques such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, GPC, and tensile testing.
- Experience with polymer synthesis, including polymerization mechanisms and control.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a track record of successful project leadership in Sunderland .
