Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Industrial Machinery

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dynamic team based remotely, supporting projects in Sunderland and beyond. This pivotal role involves the complete lifecycle design of complex industrial machinery, from initial concept through to final commissioning. You will be at the forefront of innovation, developing robust and efficient solutions for manufacturing and production environments. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to excellence, working collaboratively with global teams to deliver state-of-the-art machinery that meets the highest industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization and detailed design of industrial machinery using advanced 3D CAD software .
• Conduct thorough stress analysis , vibration analysis, and tolerance stack-up studies.
• Develop and document detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Collaborate effectively with electrical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing teams to ensure integrated system design.
• Oversee prototype development, testing, and validation of new machinery designs.
• Provide technical expertise and support to the production and service departments.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in the design of complex industrial machinery or automated systems.
• Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo) and simulation tools (FEA/CFD).
• Strong understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical control systems as they relate to mechanical design.
• Proven ability to manage projects from conception to completion in a remote setting.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
