Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Oil & Gas

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to their challenging projects within the Oil & Gas industry in Edinburgh . This role involves the detailed design and specification of complex mechanical equipment and systems for upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. You will work on critical infrastructure, requiring a robust understanding of high-pressure systems, material compatibility, and stringent safety protocols. This position offers the chance to apply your expertise in a demanding sector known for its technological sophistication.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify mechanical equipment, including pressure vessels, piping systems, pumps, and rotating machinery, for Oil & Gas applications.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations, stress analysis, and risk assessments to ensure the safety and reliability of designs.
• Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including P&IDs, 3D models, engineering drawings, and equipment specifications.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API).
• Collaborate closely with project engineers, procurement, and fabrication teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Provide technical support during the manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases of projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical design, with substantial experience in the Oil & Gas sector.
• Strong knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME VIII, API 6D, API 579).
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor) and engineering analysis tools.
• Experience with material selection for corrosive and high-temperature environments.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to complex engineering challenges in Edinburgh .
