Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative engineering team based in Sunderland . This role is integral to the development of new products and the enhancement of existing ones, working within a hybrid model that blends office-based collaboration with remote flexibility. You will be responsible for taking designs from conceptualization through to detailed specification, ensuring robust performance and manufacturability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset, excellent CAD skills, and a proven ability to contribute to complex engineering challenges. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design process for new mechanical products, from initial concept sketches to full manufacturing readiness.
• Develop detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings , and comprehensive technical specifications using CAD software.
• Conduct thorough stress analysis , vibration studies, and thermal performance evaluations using FEA tools.
• Collaborate with the wider engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are optimized for cost, quality, and production efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Investigate and resolve design-related issues that arise during product development or in the field.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and development.
• Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., Inventor, Creo) and FEA analysis tools.
• Solid understanding of materials selection , manufacturing processes (machining, injection moulding, sheet metal), and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T).
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to engineering challenges.
• Strong communication skills, suitable for effective interaction in a hybrid work environment.
