Senior Mechanical Engineer - Product Development

About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking technology company specializing in consumer electronics, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer for their product development division in Reading . You will be instrumental in the design, development, and testing of innovative mechanical components and sub-assemblies that form the core of their next-generation products. This role requires a blend of creative design thinking and rigorous engineering discipline to bring concepts from the lab to mass production. You will collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, including industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners, to deliver high-quality, user-centric products in a fast-paced environment based in Reading .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of consumer electronic products from concept to launch.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks or similar software.
• Conduct tolerance analysis, FEA simulations , and thermal analysis to ensure product performance and reliability.
• Work closely with industrial design to achieve aesthetic and functional product requirements.
• Collaborate with overseas manufacturing partners to ensure design for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
• Perform product testing and validation, troubleshooting issues and implementing design improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in product development mechanical engineering , preferably in consumer electronics.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and PDM systems.
• Experience with FEA analysis , thermal simulation, and DFM/DFA principles.
• Knowledge of plastics, metals, and manufacturing processes relevant to consumer goods.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
