Senior Medicinal Chemist - Oncology Discovery

About the Role

Our client is a renowned biotechnology company seeking an accomplished Senior Medicinal Chemist to drive their oncology drug discovery programs in Cambridge . This role is pivotal in designing and synthesizing novel small molecules targeting key pathways in cancer. You will work at the cutting edge of pharmaceutical research, collaborating with biologists, pharmacologists, and other chemists to identify and optimize drug candidates. Key Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel small molecules with potential therapeutic applications in oncology, based on target validation and SAR data.
• Optimize lead compounds to improve potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetic properties, and safety profiles.
• Utilize a wide range of synthetic organic chemistry techniques and troubleshoot complex synthetic challenges.
• Collaborate closely with in vitro and in vivo biology teams to assess compound activity and mechanism of action.
• Maintain detailed experimental records, contribute to patent filings, and present research findings at internal and external scientific meetings.

Requirements

• A PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in medicinal chemistry, with a strong track record in drug discovery, particularly in oncology.
• Extensive knowledge of structure-activity relationships (SAR), drug design principles, and ADME/Tox properties.
• Proficiency in modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques, purification, and structural characterization (NMR, MS).
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary drug discovery team.
