About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Mine Geotechnical Engineer to join their technical team in Sheffield . This hybrid role will play a vital part in ensuring the stability and safety of our underground and surface mining operations. You will be responsible for conducting geotechnical assessments, developing stability analysis, and providing expert advice on ground support systems and excavation design. This position requires a deep understanding of rock mechanics and soil mechanics as applied to mining environments, coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. You will contribute significantly to the safe and efficient extraction of resources by managing geotechnical risks and implementing best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and site characterization studies.
- Perform stability analyses for underground excavations, open pits, and tailings storage facilities.
- Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems and excavation methodologies.
- Monitor and assess ground conditions and implement remediation strategies as required.
- Provide expert geotechnical advice to mine planning, engineering, and operations teams.
- Develop and maintain geotechnical databases and monitoring systems.
Requirements
- Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in mine geotechnical engineering.
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC).
- Solid understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological principles.
- Experience with ground monitoring techniques and instrumentation.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
