Senior Mine Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and proactive Senior Mine Safety Officer to ensure the highest standards of health and safety across their operations in the Portsmouth region. This role is vital in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs to prevent accidents and injuries in the mining environment. You will conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety training, working closely with management and employees to foster a strong safety culture. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practices. This hybrid position allows for effective coordination between on-site safety initiatives and strategic planning within the office environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures for mining operations.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver effective safety training programs to all levels of personnel.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization, encouraging employee involvement and feedback.
• Maintain accurate safety records and prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a dedicated health and safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Thorough knowledge of UK mining safety legislation and best practices.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
