Senior Mining Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Mining Engineer to join their operations team in Leicester . This pivotal role involves overseeing and optimising various stages of the mining process, from exploration and planning to extraction and reclamation. You will be instrumental in ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance across the site. The successful candidate will work closely with a dedicated team of geologists, surveyors, and plant operators, contributing to strategic decision-making and driving continuous improvement within a demanding but rewarding sector, making a tangible impact on resource development and extraction.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement detailed mine plans and production schedules to meet targets efficiently and safely.
• Conduct site investigations, geological surveys, and feasibility studies to assess resource potential and operational viability.
• Supervise and manage day-to-day mining operations , including drilling, blasting, and material handling.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, implementing best practices and conducting regular audits.
• Manage and mentor junior engineering staff, fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.
• Analyse operational data to identify areas for improvement in productivity, cost reduction, and resource utilisation.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in the mining industry , with a proven track record in operational management.
• Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan) and geological modelling tools.
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, ground control, and explosives technology .
• Experience in environmental management and regulatory compliance within mining operations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
