Senior Network Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Network Engineer to join their essential IT infrastructure team based in Edinburgh . This role is fundamental to ensuring the stability, security, and performance of the company's network operations. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing complex network systems, troubleshooting critical issues, and contributing to the continuous improvement of network architecture. This position requires a hands-on approach and a commitment to maintaining robust network services within a dedicated office environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise-level network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime.
• Implement and manage network security measures, including VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access control policies.
• Develop and maintain network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
• Collaborate with other IT teams to support application deployments and infrastructure projects.
• Stay updated on emerging network technologies and industry best practices, recommending and implementing improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in network engineering and administration.
• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), and network services (e.g., DNS, DHCP).
• Hands-on experience with enterprise network hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, or Palo Alto Networks.
• Experience with network monitoring tools and network security principles.
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are highly preferred.
