Senior Operations Manager - Underground Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Senior Operations Manager to oversee their significant underground mining operations near Sheffield . This critical leadership role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of resources, managing all aspects of day-to-day mine production. You will lead a large team of professionals, drive operational excellence, and implement strategic initiatives to optimize performance and achieve production targets. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, a deep understanding of underground mining techniques, and a proven track record in managing complex mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of underground mine operations, including drilling, blasting, ore handling, and ground support.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to meet production targets, cost controls, and safety objectives.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a diverse team of mine supervisors, engineers, and frontline workers.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards and procedures.
• Optimize resource allocation, including personnel, equipment, and materials, for maximum efficiency.
• Collaborate with planning, engineering, and maintenance departments to ensure seamless operations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, implementing new technologies and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is advantageous.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in underground mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior management or supervisory role.
• Proven expertise in various underground mining methods (e.g., stoping, caving, room and pillar).
• Strong knowledge of mine safety regulations and best practices.
• Demonstrated leadership, team management, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with all levels of the workforce and stakeholders.
