About the Role

Our client is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Organic Chemist to join their vibrant Medicinal Chemistry department in Cardiff . This is a hands-on laboratory role focused on the design and synthesis of novel small molecules for pharmaceutical applications. You will play a crucial role in advancing drug discovery programs by designing synthetic routes, executing complex organic reactions, and purifying target compounds. Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute multi-step synthetic routes for novel chemical entities.
• Perform complex organic reactions, including asymmetric synthesis, cross-coupling, and heterocyclic chemistry.
• Purify synthesized compounds using techniques such as chromatography and crystallization.
• Characterize compounds using analytical methods like NMR, Mass Spectrometry, and HPLC.
• Collaborate with biologists and pharmacologists to support drug discovery projects and troubleshoot synthetic challenges.

Requirements

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry, preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting.
• Strong theoretical and practical understanding of modern synthetic methodologies.
• Proficiency in modern analytical and purification techniques.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a team-oriented laboratory environment.
