About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled Senior Pharmaceutical Chemist to join their innovative research and development team in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is central to the discovery and development of novel drug candidates, involving complex synthesis, analysis, and formulation work. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, contributing your expertise to drive pipeline projects from early-stage research through to preclinical development. Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute complex organic synthesis routes for novel drug candidates.
• Perform comprehensive analytical characterization of synthesized compounds using techniques such as NMR, Mass Spectrometry, and HPLC.
• Develop and optimize formulation strategies for drug substances, assessing stability and bioavailability.
• Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and analytical issues, proposing innovative solutions.
• Contribute to the preparation of regulatory documentation, including IND filings.
• Mentor junior chemists and provide technical guidance on laboratory procedures and research projects.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical drug discovery and development.
• Strong expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and modern analytical techniques.
• Demonstrated experience with formulation development and stability studies.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic R&D environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to scientific challenges.
