Senior Pharmaceutical Process Chemist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Pharmaceutical Process Chemist to join their expanding R&D team in Derby . This role is central to the development and optimization of scalable, robust, and cost-effective chemical synthesis routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will lead projects focused on transitioning new chemical entities from discovery through to manufacturing, ensuring process safety, quality, and efficiency. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize synthetic routes for APIs suitable for large-scale manufacturing.
• Conduct process safety assessments and implement control strategies to mitigate risks.
• Perform process validation studies and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., GMP).
• Troubleshoot and resolve chemical process-related issues encountered during scale-up and manufacturing.
• Collaborate closely with analytical chemists, engineers, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful technology transfer.
• Mentor junior chemists and contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory practices and methodologies.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Process Chemistry.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical process development or medicinal chemistry with a strong focus on scale-up.
• Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, reaction optimization, and scale-up principles.
• Hands-on experience with process safety evaluation and risk assessment.
• Familiarity with GMP requirements and regulatory guidelines relevant to API manufacturing.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication abilities.
