Senior Pharmacist - Anaesthesia, Perioperative, Pain Medicine and ICCU

Seeking a self-motivated, passionate and resilient clinical pharmacist to join our team of critical care pharmacists and technicians.

In 2022 we expanded our team to provide a 7-day clinical service to the Integrated Critical Care Unit (ICCU). This has been extremely well received by the multidisciplinary team and has made a significant impact to patient care.

An independent prescribing qualification is desirable but there is the opportunity and support to undertake the course if not already completed.

If desired there will be opportunities to undertake further postgraduate qualifications, supported by our pharmacy education and training team.

What you will gain from the role:Experience working in a large critical care unit treating patients from a wide range of specialities, including cardiothoracic surgery.

Experience working with the team to maintain shared oversight and governance of other clinical areas in the Anaesthesia, Perioperative, Pain Medicine and ICCU Group, including theatres.

Support and mentorship from a highly experienced Principal Pharmacist for critical care.

Working within a team of friendly, motivated and supportive pharmacists and pharmacytechnicians.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job include:

Providing clinical and directorate support to the Anaesthesia, Perioperative, Pain Medicine and ICCU Group.

Participating in the 7-day clinical pharmacy service to the critical care unit.

Liaising with pharmacists working in other medical and surgical specialities to ensure seamless care of those patients transferring between different levels of care.

Providing a pharmacy service to the operating theatres and anaesthetic department.

Contributing to service improvement projects, governance, financial reporting, and guideline development.

Education and training of junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students on the management of critical care patients.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

• Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent) and registration with GPhC
• Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and competence in a broad range of medical and surgical specialties relevant to post
• Experience of working as part of the Pharmacy Team within the Critical Care speciality
• Experience in supervising, training and assessing staff
• Completed postgraduate Clinical Diploma or equivalent qualification

Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to manage own time effectively and prioritise appropriately
• Ability to adapt behaviour to changing circumstances and work under pressure
• Ability to work both on own initiative and also to co-operate within a team to achieve desired outcomes
• Experience of implementing or delivering the objectives of cost/service improvement programmes
• Experience of undertaking audits and participating in clinical research
• Experience of developing and implementing policies, procedures, guidelines and patient group directions
