Senior Process Chemical Engineer - Pharmaceutical

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Chemical Engineer to join their state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Bristol . This role is integral to the development, optimization, and scale-up of complex chemical processes for life-saving pharmaceutical products. You will lead critical projects, ensuring processes meet rigorous quality, safety, and regulatory standards (cGMP). This hybrid role allows for strategic planning and documentation from home, combined with essential on-site work, process observation, and team collaboration within our client's advanced R&D and manufacturing labs in Bristol , contributing to the forefront of pharmaceutical innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes for pharmaceutical active ingredient (API) manufacturing.
• Oversee process scale-up activities from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial production.
• Ensure all process designs and modifications comply with cGMP, FDA, and EMA regulations.
• Conduct detailed process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety measures.
• Troubleshoot complex process issues and provide technical leadership to the engineering and production teams.
• Develop and validate process models, P&IDs, and operational procedures.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in process engineering within the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
• Deep understanding of cGMP requirements and regulatory guidelines (FDA, EMA).
• Proven experience with process development, scale-up, and technology transfer.
• Expertise in process simulation, P&ID development, and statistical analysis (DOE).
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills, essential for hybrid collaboration.
