About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Design Engineer to lead the conceptual and detailed design of chemical processes at their Reading facility. This role is fundamental to developing innovative and efficient plant designs that meet stringent safety, environmental, and operational requirements. You will guide project teams, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into robust engineering solutions. This is a challenging and rewarding position for an experienced engineer aiming for leadership in process design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of process designs from conceptualization through to detailed engineering for new chemical plants and modifications.
- Prepare and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications.
- Perform process simulations and calculations to optimize designs for efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and HAZOP studies.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior process engineers.
- Liaise with project management, operations, and external vendors to ensure design integrity and project success.
Requirements
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a degree in Chemical Engineering .
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in process design engineering within the chemical or process industries.
- Extensive experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, UniSim) and CAD tools.
- Deep understanding of process safety principles, including HAZOP and LOPA.
- Proven ability to lead design teams and manage technical aspects of projects.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
