Senior Process Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Design Engineer to join their expanding team in Belfast . This role is central to conceptualising and developing innovative chemical process designs for a range of complex projects. You will lead design teams, ensuring that all processes are efficient, safe, sustainable, and cost-effective. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leading design projects from conception through to implementation, working in a collaborative and technologically advanced environment. This is a key position offering significant influence over project outcomes and strategic development within the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of conceptual and detailed process designs for new chemical plants and modifications to existing facilities.
• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications.
• Conduct rigorous process simulations and hazard assessments to ensure designs meet safety and performance targets.
• Oversee and contribute to technical reviews and design critiques to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively for design activities.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive experience (8+ years) in process design engineering, with a focus on chemical manufacturing.
• Expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, UniSim) and CAD tools.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety management (PSM), HAZOP, and LOPA studies.
• Strong leadership, project management, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Familiarity with international design codes and standards.
