About the Role
Our client is looking for a dedicated Senior Process Development Chemist to join their innovative R&D department in Glasgow . This role is crucial for the development and optimization of new chemical synthesis routes and manufacturing processes for pharmaceutical intermediates and fine chemicals. You will be responsible for designing and executing laboratory experiments, troubleshooting synthesis challenges, and scaling up processes to pilot plant level. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and process chemistry, with a passion for innovation and a meticulous approach to research, contributing to a collaborative environment focused on accelerating drug development and delivering high-quality chemical products.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute laboratory experiments to develop robust and scalable chemical synthesis processes.
- Optimize reaction conditions, isolation procedures, and purification techniques to maximize yield and purity.
- Perform process hazard assessments and identify potential safety risks associated with new processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve synthetic and process-related challenges encountered during development and scale-up.
- Characterize reaction products using analytical techniques such as NMR, HPLC, and GC-MS.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and findings thoroughly in laboratory notebooks and technical reports.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in process development within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
- Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and reaction optimization.
- Experience with scale-up activities from laboratory to pilot plant.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques for chemical characterization and quality control.
- Strong documentation skills and the ability to present complex scientific information clearly.
