About the Role
Our client, a significant contributor to the Energy sector, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their team near Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, UK . This role is vital for ensuring the integrity and safety of our operations, focusing on the prevention of major accidents through robust process safety management. You will lead and execute process safety studies, develop safety procedures, and champion a strong safety culture across the organization. Working in a hybrid capacity, you will collaborate closely with operational and project teams to embed best practices in process safety engineering throughout the project lifecycle, contributing to a secure and compliant working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies , Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and other risk assessment techniques.
- Develop and implement comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry standards within the energy industry .
- Oversee the design and implementation of safety-critical equipment and systems.
- Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Provide expert advice and training on process safety principles to project teams and operational staff.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in process safety engineering , with a significant portion within the energy or process industries.
- In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, risk assessment methodologies, and safety regulations.
- Experience with safety software and tools for quantitative risk assessment (QRA).
- Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to drive safety initiatives effectively.
