Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly competent Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their established team in Belfast , Northern Ireland. This role is crucial for ensuring the highest standards of safety are maintained across all operations, from design through to decommissioning. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing process safety management systems, risk assessments, and compliance procedures. Working within a key industrial sector, you will collaborate with various departments to foster a robust safety culture and mitigate potential hazards, contributing significantly to the operational integrity and reputation of our client.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) systems in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct and lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies, for new and existing processes.
• Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective and preventative actions to enhance safety performance.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and standards, providing expert advice to operational teams and management.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to employees at all levels of the organisation.
• Review engineering designs and modifications to ensure process safety considerations are integrated from the outset.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience specifically in process safety engineering within a chemical or industrial environment.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, HAZOP methodologies, and quantitative risk assessment techniques.
• Strong understanding of relevant UK and international safety regulations and standards.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent professional qualification is highly desirable.
