Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to strengthen their safety engineering capabilities in Edinburgh . This vital role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of process safety across all operational and project activities within the energy sector. You will lead hazard identification, risk assessment, and the development of robust safety management systems. Your expertise will be critical in safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment, fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct comprehensive Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) and other process hazard analyses (PHA).
• Develop, implement, and maintain robust process safety management (PSM) systems.
• Perform quantitative risk assessments (QRA) and consequence modeling.
• Review engineering designs and operational procedures to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Provide technical expertise and training on process safety principles and best practices.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety engineering within the energy or chemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of international process safety standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, COMAH).
• Proven experience with HAZOP facilitation, LOPA, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Strong understanding of inherently safer design principles and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
