Location: Teesside Project: Major Energy Infrastructure Project Contract: 12-month initial assignment, with potential extension to 18 months+ Engagement: Limited Company Recruit-i is supporting a specialist construction contractor delivering a major reinforced concrete, formwork and associated civils package on one of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects in Teesside.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to take a hands-on leadership role across a substantial construction package involving a workforce approaching 500 personnel.

This is not a purely reporting or coordination-based Project Manager position. The successful candidate will be expected to understand what is happening on site, interrogate the construction programme, identify blockers, challenge performance and provide clear direction to the delivery team.

The Role

Working as a senior member of the project leadership team, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of a major civils, reinforced concrete and formwork scope.

The role requires a strong combination of construction delivery, programme awareness, commercial understanding, client management and site leadership.

You will interface regularly with the principal contractor and end client and therefore need the credibility and confidence to represent the contractor at senior project meetings.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading the day-to-day delivery of a major reinforced concrete, formwork and civils package.

• Providing visible, hands-on leadership to a site workforce approaching 500 personnel.

• Managing and providing direction to Area/Site Agents, Project Managers and the wider technical and construction teams.

• Reviewing construction progress against the accepted Primavera P6 programme and challenging areas of underperformance.

• Understanding the Level 4 programme in sufficient detail to interrogate individual activities, sequencing, resources and constraints.

• Reviewing resource profiles, concrete volumes and productivity against planned activities.

• Identifying construction blockers and ensuring appropriate actions are driven through to resolution.

• Maintaining a strong focus on foundations, reinforced concrete, formwork and associated civil engineering activities.

• Working closely with the planning team on weekly programme updates, change identification and impact programmes.

• Ensuring changes, delays and emerging scope are identified and properly captured through the project controls and commercial processes.

• Working closely with the commercial team, including a Senior QS and supporting Quantity Surveyors, within an NEC Option E environment.

• Understanding potential disallowed cost exposure and ensuring delivery decisions are considered from both construction and commercial perspectives.

• Challenging scope, programme and commercial issues constructively where required rather than simply accepting information at face value.

• Maintaining effective working relationships with the principal contractor and end client.

• Leading and contributing to senior client and progress meetings.

• Providing clear direction and motivation to site management and construction personnel.

• Working alongside the project's Temporary Works function and ensuring appropriate management of temporary works requirements, registers and design briefs.

• Supporting the management of a significant amount of developing and yet-to-be-issued scope.

Experience Required

NEC contract experience is essential, ideally gained within an NEC Option E environment.

Candidates should also demonstrate:

• Significant Project Management or Construction Management experience on major construction projects.

• Strong civil engineering experience.

• Ideally direct experience of reinforced concrete, formwork, foundations or major structural concrete packages.

• Experience leading large site-based construction teams and subcontractor workforces.

• Strong understanding of construction planning and Primavera P6 programmes.

• The ability to interpret detailed construction programmes rather than relying solely on the planning function.

• Experience managing programme change, delay, constraints and construction interfaces.

• Good commercial awareness and the ability to work effectively alongside Quantity Surveying and commercial teams.

• Experience working directly with major EPC/EPCM organisations, Tier 1 contractors and/or sophisticated end clients.

• The confidence to challenge programme, commercial and construction issues when necessary.

• Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills.

Experience on major energy, power, infrastructure, industrial, petrochemical or similarly complex construction projects would be highly advantageous.

The Individual

We are looking for somebody who is comfortable being close to the construction activity.

You will need to be capable of moving between a senior client meeting and the construction site, understanding both the contractual/commercial discussion and the practical delivery issues affecting the workforce.

This requires somebody who will question, challenge and investigate. If the programme shows an activity behind schedule, you will want to understand why, what is preventing progress, what resource is available and what needs to happen to recover it.

Previous civils, concrete or reinforced concrete experience will provide significant credibility when leading the delivery team and interfacing with the client.

Assignment

The initial requirement is anticipated to be 12 months, although the scale of the remaining works, developing scope and potential scope growth could result in an assignment extending beyond this period.
