Senior Project Manager - Defence Projects

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager to oversee sensitive and complex Defence Projects in the Plymouth region. This critical role requires a proven ability to manage projects within stringent security, regulatory, and technical environments. You will lead dedicated teams, manage significant budgets, and ensure the successful delivery of key defence initiatives, working in close collaboration with government agencies and specialist suppliers. Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of defence projects, from initial requirements gathering and planning through to execution, testing, and delivery.
• Ensure strict adherence to all security protocols, defence standards, and regulatory requirements governing defence projects.
• Develop and meticulously manage project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Lead and mentor multi-disciplinary project teams, including engineers, security cleared personnel, and external contractors.
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with stakeholders, including government representatives, senior management, and project sponsors.
• Oversee complex procurement processes and manage relationships with defence sector suppliers and partners.

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of project management experience, with substantial experience specifically within the defence sector.
• Must hold or be eligible for high-level security clearance.
• Demonstrated success in managing large-scale, technically complex defence projects.
• Strong understanding of defence procurement processes, systems engineering, and project governance.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
