Senior Quantity Surveyor – Residential Groundworks
Location: Bedfordshire Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent (PAYE or LTD) Salary: Up to £95,000 (DOE) + Company Benefits
About the Company
Our client is a well-established residential groundworks contractor with an annual turnover of approximately £70 million, delivering high-quality infrastructure and groundwork packages for leading housebuilders across the South East and Midlands. With a strong reputation for safety, quality, and consistent delivery, they have built long-standing relationships within the residential sector.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are now seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based in Bedford.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong residential groundworks experience to take a leading role within a growing contractor. The successful candidate will oversee the commercial and financial performance of multiple projects, ensuring profitability, compliance, and efficient delivery from tender stage through to final account.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of multiple residential groundworks projects
- Prepare, review, and manage budgets, cost plans, and financial forecasts
- Oversee interim valuations, variations, and final account agreements
- Monitor project costs, cash flow, and CVRs
- Manage subcontract procurement and accounts
- Provide commercial guidance to site teams and junior surveyors
- Identify and drive value engineering opportunities
- Maintain accurate commercial records and reporting systems
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within residential groundworks
- Strong commercial and contractual knowledge (JCT/NEC)
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent negotiation and leadership skills
- Ability to mentor and support junior team members
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (HNC/HND/Degree preferred)
