Senior Research Scientist - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly accomplished Senior Research Scientist with expertise in Genomics to join their dedicated research and development facility in Stoke-on-Trent . This role is central to advancing their understanding of complex biological systems through the analysis of genomic data. You will lead key research projects, design and execute experiments, and interpret results to drive scientific innovation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong publication record and a deep understanding of current genomic technologies and analytical methods. This is an on-site position within a state-of-the-art laboratory, offering the opportunity to collaborate with a talented team of scientists and contribute to impactful discoveries in a non-remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, execution, and analysis of genomic studies, including whole-genome sequencing, exome sequencing, and RNA-Seq.
• Develop and optimize novel genomic assays and bioinformatics pipelines for data analysis.
• Interpret complex genomic datasets to identify disease mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians, to integrate genomic findings into broader research initiatives.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in genomics technology and bioinformatics, and assess their relevance for the company's research programs.
• Author scientific publications, present findings at conferences, and contribute to grant applications.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or a related life sciences field.
• Significant postdoctoral and/or industry experience (5+ years) in genomics research.
• Demonstrated expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and experimental design.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in genomic data analysis using relevant software and statistical methods.
• Proven ability to manage research projects independently and effectively.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and teamwork skills, essential for working within our Stoke-on-Trent laboratory.
