Senior Research Scientist - Materials Science

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Research Scientist to join their cutting-edge R&D facility in Leicester . This pivotal role will involve spearheading research initiatives in novel materials development, focusing on advanced polymers and composites for industrial applications. You will be instrumental in driving projects from conceptualization through to prototype development, contributing significantly to the company's technological advancements and intellectual property portfolio. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of material characterization techniques and a proven track record in delivering impactful research outcomes within a collaborative laboratory setting, ensuring our client remains at the forefront of materials science innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead independent research projects focused on the synthesis, characterization, and application of advanced materials, particularly polymers and composites.
• Design and execute complex experiments, employing a range of analytical and spectroscopic techniques to assess material properties.
• Interpret experimental data, draw meaningful conclusions, and prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to translate laboratory findings into scalable manufacturing processes and product designs.
• Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the overall scientific direction of the research group.

Requirements

• A PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industrial research experience in materials science.
• Demonstrated expertise in polymer synthesis, characterization techniques (e.g., DSC, TGA, FTIR, SEM), and mechanical testing.
• Proven ability to manage multiple research projects concurrently and deliver results against deadlines.
• Strong publication record and experience in intellectual property generation.
