About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly innovative Senior Research Scientist specializing in Materials Science to join their advanced R&D team, working remotely with occasional collaborative sessions in their Derby facility. This role is critical for driving the discovery and development of novel materials with unique properties for advanced applications. You will lead research projects, design experiments, characterize materials using sophisticated techniques, and contribute to intellectual property generation. The ideal candidate possesses a strong academic background, proven experimental skills, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of materials innovation in a flexible, remote-friendly setting that fosters creativity and scientific rigor.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead research initiatives focused on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel materials.
- Employ advanced techniques such as electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and thermal analysis to study material properties.
- Develop and optimize experimental methodologies for material synthesis and evaluation.
- Analyze complex data, interpret results, and formulate clear conclusions and recommendations.
- Contribute to patent applications, scientific publications, and technical presentations.
Requirements
- PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry research experience in materials science.
- Demonstrated expertise in material synthesis, processing, and characterization techniques.
- Strong understanding of structure-property relationships in advanced materials.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in technical reporting.
