About the Role
Our client is looking for an accomplished Senior Scientist specializing in Microbiology and Fermentation to join their innovative R&D team in Liverpool . This role is pivotal in developing and optimizing microbial processes for the production of valuable compounds, including biofuels and biochemicals. You will lead experimental design, scale-up studies, and process optimization, working within a well-equipped laboratory. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in microbial physiology, genetic engineering, and fermentation technology, contributing significantly to sustainable industrial processes from our Liverpool site.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments to optimize microbial strains and fermentation conditions for enhanced product yield and efficiency.
- Develop and implement robust fermentation processes, from laboratory-scale to pilot-scale operations.
- Characterize microbial physiology and metabolic pathways relevant to the production of target compounds.
- Perform downstream processing and purification of fermentation products.
- Conduct molecular biology techniques for strain improvement, including genetic modification and metabolic engineering.
- Troubleshoot fermentation issues and implement solutions to ensure process consistency and success.
Requirements
- PhD in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial or academic research experience in microbial fermentation.
- Proven experience with aseptic techniques, microbial culture optimization, and fermentation scale-up.
- Knowledge of microbial genetics, molecular biology, and metabolic engineering principles.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques for product characterization (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in Liverpool .
