Senior Software Engineer - Backend

About the Role

Our client is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Software Engineer with a specialization in backend development to join their technology team in Stoke-on-Trent . This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and high-performance backend systems that power their core applications. You will be a key contributor to the entire software development lifecycle, from architecture and design to implementation and deployment, working in a collaborative agile environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for writing clean, efficient code, a deep understanding of modern backend technologies, and the ability to mentor junior engineers while driving technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement scalable and reliable backend services and APIs using modern programming languages and frameworks.
• Optimize application performance, database efficiency, and system architecture for robustness and scalability.
• Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code, actively participating in code reviews.
• Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and DevOps engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production and development environments.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology selection for future projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in languages like Java, Python, C#, or Node.js, and experience with relevant frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Django, .NET Core).
• Deep understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong grasp of software design patterns and principles.
