About the Role
Our client is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer with a strong focus on backend development to join their expanding technology team. This is a fully remote position, allowing you the freedom to work from any location within the UK. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust, scalable, and high-performance backend systems that power critical business applications. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who is passionate about writing clean code, optimizing system performance, and collaborating within an agile, distributed team environment. You will contribute to architectural decisions and help mentor junior engineers, driving technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement scalable and efficient backend services and APIs.
- Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code using modern programming languages and frameworks.
- Optimize application performance, database queries, and system architecture for speed and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including front-end developers, product managers, and QA engineers.
- Participate actively in code reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to enhance code quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production and development environments.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development .
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Python, C#, or Go.
- Extensive experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases.
- Solid understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerization (e.g., Docker) is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, autonomous team.
