Senior Software Engineer – Python, AWS / GCP

Remote First (Occassional Travel to London) | Up to £100,000 + Bonus

This is an opportunity to work on complex software problems at the intersection of large-scale platform engineering and AI.

I'm recruiting for a UK technology business whose platform is used globally and is playing an increasingly important role within the AI industry.

This isn't a business simply adding an AI feature to an existing product. The underlying technology has a genuine role to play in how AI systems are developed and improved, creating some particularly interesting challenges for the engineering teams behind it.

You'll be joining an established product engineering function working on a high-scale platform where reliability, performance and the ability to evolve systems quickly really matter.

A product mindset is a big part of the engineering culture. Senior Engineers aren't handed a predefined solution and asked to build it. You'll be expected to understand the problem you're trying to solve, contribute to what the right solution looks like and think about the impact it has on the people using it.

You'll get feedback quickly, learn what works and iterate. The aim isn't simply to ship more features; it's to keep improving the product and find better ways to solve the underlying problem.

There's a deliberately high bar for engineering hires, too. The emphasis is on quality rather than growing the team as quickly as possible, giving you the opportunity to work alongside other strong engineers with similarly high standards.

There's plenty of new development, but this isn't a greenfield environment where everything can simply be rebuilt from scratch. Part of the challenge is knowing where to evolve existing systems, where to introduce something new and how to do that without compromising reliability.

The technology is predominantly Python, JavaScript and TypeScript, with Django REST Framework and Vue.js, running across GCP and AWS.

The wider environment includes serverless and container-based architectures, Kubernetes, MongoDB, DynamoDB and event-driven systems, alongside modern CI/CD and observability tooling.

You don't need to have worked with every part of that stack.

What's more important is a strong track record of building and operating complex software in production, alongside the ability to think beyond the code itself.

You'll need to be comfortable getting into the detail of a problem, asking the right questions, making sensible technical trade-offs and adapting your approach as you learn more from users and the product.

Previous AI experience isn't essential. Strong software engineering and a product mindset are.
