Senior Software Quality Engineer
- yateley, england, United Kingdom
- Job type not listed
- £45 - £65 Per Hour
Job Description
We are supporting an innovative UK automotive technology business in appointing a Software Quality Engineer to establish and own the software quality framework for its next-generation electrified vehicle platform.
This is not simply a software testing position. You will define how embedded software is developed, reviewed, validated and released, ensuring compliance with ISO 26262, ASPICE principles and automotive best practice.
Joining a small, highly experienced engineering team, you will have the freedom to shape processes that are appropriate for a prototype and low-volume production environment.
What you will do
- Define and maintain software quality processes, standards and development gateways.
- Ensure software development activities comply with ISO 26262 and internal quality requirements.
- Own the software quality, validation and testing strategy.
- Establish the software quality matrix, audit framework and compliance reporting.
- Participate in requirements, software design, code and test reviews.
- Support software verification, validation and release activities.
- Conduct audits and process assessments, identifying and resolving compliance gaps.
- Monitor adherence to coding standards, quality metrics and development processes.
- Work closely with embedded software, systems and functional safety engineers.
- Support the development of internal tools to automate elements of the software QA pipeline.
- Promote continuous improvement and a strong culture of software quality.
What we are looking for
- Practical knowledge of ISO 26262.
- Strong understanding of ASPICE and automotive software development processes.
- Experience owning, defining or improving software quality processes—not only working within an established framework.
- Experience supporting embedded or application software development.
- Involvement in requirements, code and test reviews.
- Experience of software verification, validation and quality assurance.Exposure to at least one full product or software development lifecycle.
- The confidence to operate as a quality gatekeeper and challenge engineering teams constructively.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- A relevant degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics or a related discipline.
Experience with MISRA, automated QA pipelines or establishing software quality processes from a blank sheet would be particularly valuable.
Automotive experience is preferred, although candidates from aerospace or another safety-critical embedded software environment may also be considered.
Why consider this opportunity?
- Take genuine ownership of software quality rather than supporting one small part of a larger process.
- Build and shape a framework appropriate for a growing automotive technology company.
- Influence the development of an innovative, clean-sheet vehicle platform.
- Work closely with experienced software, systems and functional safety specialists.
- Join a growing business offering flexible working and an equity share scheme.
If you have experience establishing and enforcing robust software development processes within a safety-critical environment, we would be pleased to hear from you.
