Senior Solar PV Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a talented and detail-oriented Senior Solar PV Design Engineer to join their growing team in Edinburgh . You will be responsible for the technical design and engineering of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects across the UK , from initial concept through to detailed design and construction support. This role requires a strong understanding of PV system components, electrical principles, and regulatory requirements to deliver efficient, reliable, and cost-effective solar energy solutions. You will play a key role in advancing renewable energy infrastructure and contributing to the decarbonization of the Scottish energy market .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical and mechanical design of solar PV systems, including site layout, component selection, and system sizing.
• Produce detailed design drawings, schematics, and specifications using industry-standard software.
• Conduct energy yield assessments and performance simulations for proposed solar projects.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant industry standards, UK building regulations , and grid connection requirements.
• Provide technical support during the procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of projects.
• Review designs from third-party contractors and suppliers to ensure quality and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing solar PV systems .
• Proficiency with solar design software such as PVSyst, AutoCAD, and Helioscope.
• Strong understanding of PV technology, inverters, battery storage, and grid integration principles.
• Knowledge of Scottish and UK planning and grid connection processes is highly advantageous.
